A contemporary country home, reimagined around family life and its rural setting.

By rethinking the layout, architectural form and connection to the garden, Adam Knibb Architects has developed a contemporary country home that balances character, practicality and a strong connection to its surroundings.
At the heart of the home is a generous kitchen and dining space, designed for cooking, entertaining and everyday family life, with direct access to the garden and outdoor seating areas. Large areas of glazing bring natural light deep into the interior while making the most of the views across the Hampshire countryside.
Elsewhere, a more intimate sitting room provides a cosy retreat for evenings and winter days, balanced by flexible spaces for working, hobbies and family life. Practical considerations are equally important, with dedicated utility and boot room facilities, generous storage and carefully planned circulation helping the house work as well as it looks.
Located in Four Marks, Hampshire, the design brings together the familiar form of a pitched roof with a contemporary, single-storey element that opens towards the garden. A restrained palette of timber, brick, metal and glazing creates a subtle contrast between traditional and modern elements, giving the house its own identity while allowing it to sit comfortably within its rural surroundings.
Alongside the architectural design, Adam Knibb Architects is working with the clients on the interiors, ensuring that the materials, finishes and furnishings complement the character of the house. The aim is to create a cohesive, welcoming home that balances contemporary style with the warmth and practicality needed for everyday family life.
Positioned on the footprint of the existing dwelling, the proposed home retains the established relationship with the site while making better use of its outlook. Carefully placed glazing frames views towards the surrounding countryside and the South Downs beyond, while sheltered terraces and landscaped outdoor spaces extend the living areas into the garden.
The result will be a practical, light-filled family home that balances contemporary living with the warmth and character of a modern country house.
