Contemporary Two Storey Extension including Metal and Timber Cladding

Adam Knibb Architects were approached by the clients to design a contemporary extension that would provide efficiencies of modern living and create a space suitable for the whole family.

The design starts by creating a contemporary entrance area which is located centrally to the house, allowing a comfortable transition from ground to first floor. The extension to the west side of the house, on ground floor, promotes a modern lifestyle with open plan areas for the kitchen and living spaces. These are opened up to external patio areas creating nice and relaxed areas for the family to enjoy.

On first floor, the side and front extension creates space for a master bedroom with an ensuite and dressing room. The internal refurbishment on both floors allows for the addition of one extra bedroom and a new comfortable layout for modern living standards.

The proposal looks into utilising picture and high level slot windows to harness the brilliant views down the garden to the trees beyond and to bring natural light into the spaces without creating any overlooking issues. The use of glazing creates a harmonious relationship between the indoors and outdoors.

The proposed sedum roofs allow the extension to blend in with the landscape. The use of timber and stone cladding creates a natural link to the surrounding whilst the simple use of white and grey render gives a subtle contrast against the facades. The use of metal cladding creates a minimal, contemporary addition to the existing house.
