ABOUT

A Sculptural Home Overlooking Winchester

Bereweeke House is a contemporary replacement dwelling designed for a sloping site with panoramic views across Winchester. Inspired by the clean lines and bold geometry of mid-century modern architecture, the design responds directly to the site's topography, creating a home that appears to emerge from the landscape.

The architecture is composed of two interlocking volumes: a solid, grounded base embedded into the hillside and a lighter upper floor that projects confidently beyond it. This interplay of weight and balance creates a striking architectural form while reducing the perceived scale of the building.

Designed Around the Landscape

The principal living spaces are arranged to make the most of the site's elevated position, with expansive glazing framing long-distance views and opening onto a series of stepped terraces that connect the house with the garden and swimming pool.

The more private street-facing elevation is carefully composed with limited openings, creating a calm architectural presence while maintaining privacy for the family. In contrast, the south-facing façade opens generously to the landscape, strengthening the relationship between the home and its surroundings.

Light, Shade and Sustainability

Deep roof overhangs and projecting terraces provide passive solar shading, allowing generous natural light to enter the house while helping to reduce overheating during the summer months.

The contemporary design is complemented by a range of sustainable technologies, including an extensive photovoltaic array and battery storage, supporting a highly energy-efficient home designed for long-term performance.

Contemporary Architecture Rooted in Place

Bereweeke House demonstrates how careful consideration of landscape, orientation and form can create architecture that is both visually striking and environmentally responsive.

By working with the natural contours of the site rather than against them, the design creates a distinctive contemporary home that celebrates its setting while providing light-filled spaces for modern family living.
